Star Wars, Episode 4 "A New Hope" - 1977

Well, come ON….it's STAR WARS for chrissakes. The original. The best. (Mike contends that The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the series, but I have to disagree with that).

I will not waste time on a review of this movie. Either you've seen it and have your own opinion, or you moved to Lappland in 1974 and have not been heard from since. What I can tell you is why I love it, even now, all these years later: it opened up new worlds for me. More than a great story, it constantly reminds me that there is more to life than THIS, here, where I live and where I work. I saw it 12 times in its first month release alone, a fact my parents never let me forget (and I mean, never; along the same lines of "I was in labor for 25 hours!" was the phrase "How many times did we take you to see that movie?"). From the time I first saw the horizon of Tatoonie spill over the screen in front of me, I felt the desire for a greater purpose, because I did not just love the movie, I wanted to be the person who created it. Jealousy, pure and simple. I discovered then what great story telling is about, and I've been chasing that dragon ever since.

I should have never given up on my dream of becoming a movie director………
