Essay Outline
This is an outline which I developed because I realized I was banging on with the writing w/out actually having any structure in place. Bad idea. Note that "O.O." stands for "Operation Overlord."
- Intro:
- Nelan's argument/article discription
- The Russians won the war, actually; and the war would have been won by the Allies w/out O.O. anyway.
- What does this fact do to Nelan's argument?
- Thesis: The Russians won the war, but O.O. as led by Eisenhower kept the Russians from dominating all of Europe. Thesis: Eisenhower did not beat Hitler, he stalled Stalin.
- Specifics:
- How the Russians really won the war (and arguments supporting)
- O.O. did not aid the Russians in doing so, much.
- What O.O. did do, short term: shorten the war in Europe.
- What O.O. did do, long term: kept USSR from dominating Western Europe.
- Eisenhower's contrib. to O.O. insured its success.
- Conclusion: W/out Eisenhower, O.O. probably would have failed; if O.O. failed, Stalin would have laid claim to all of Europe, except perhaps Italy; ergo, Eisenhower stalled Stalin. (restating thesis in light of proof)
